Cynthia Sims Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peoples Funeral Home - Marianna on Nov. 3, 2025.
MS. CYNTHIA L. SIMS was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, partner, and friend whose life was filled with

love, laughter, and purpose. She was born in Donalsonville, Georgia on September 6, 1954.

She received her parental guidance from her beloved late mother, Gehazel Sims, and her phenomenal late

grandmother, Odell Williams Sims. Throughout her life she carried the strength, grace, and resilience

instilled in her from childhood.

Cynthia received her education in Jackson County and graduated from Marianna High School in 1973.

Shortly after graduation, she moved to Miami, Florida, where she built a meaningful and dedicated career.

She worked as a city bus driver and later continued her service with the United States Postal Service, where she retired as a clerk.

After retiring, Cynthia returned home to Greenwood, Florida to be closer to her mother, children, grandchildren, and sisters. Never one to sit still, she soon found joy in serving her community once again

through the Jackson County School Board as a school bus driver. She truly loved her job, her co-workers,

and the students she transported each day. She had a story to tell each day after returning home. She

remained employed there until her peaceful transition.

Cynthia was the kind of woman who made every room brighter. Known as the life of the party, she had a

contagious laugh and a personality that warmed every heart. She was also a phenomenal cook-her kitchen

was her happy place and her food brought the family together in love. She enjoyed family gatherings,

celebrating others, and spending quality time with those she cherished most, her family. Her presence

turned ordinary moments into memories that will forever bring smiles.

She accepted Christ into her life at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church and lived by the belief that God places us on earth to love one another. Cynthia lived out that mission daily. Even through life's challenges, she remained courageous and kept her light shining. Her resilience and devotion to family were a source of inspiration for all who knew her.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Gehazel Sims; father, Mack Ira Holton;

grandmother, Odell Williams Sims; and sisters, Celeste Myrick, Zalice Lee and Ida Mae Hart.

Cynthia leaves to cherish her precious memory: her devoted daughters, Sakeenah Sims and Nicole Sims; grandchildren, LaQueesha Davis, Carlos Cooper (Diajah), Natera Sparks (DJ), Emman Williams, Nikyan

Harvey, and Emmari Harvey; great-grandchildren, Rome Elijah, Reign Gavin, and Carlos Cooper Jr.;

cherished partner, William E. Long; treasured siblings, Hakim Shaheed (Sakeenah), Gwen Long

(William), Robin Sims, Reginald Sims, Anthony Martin, Andrew Martin, Carl Holton, Angela Holton, and Cynthia Martin; brother-in-law, Curtis Myrick Sr.; like-sisters, Wanda Sims and Pecola Barthell; uncle, Edward Sims (Eloise); nieces, Tamiko (Drico), Tammi, Chandra, and TaCara; nephews, Aqeel (Sheena), Kamal (Lacresha), Tariq, Curtis Jr. (Sarranda), Rashad, and Ernest; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends will forever cherish the love she shared and the joy she spread.

Though our hearts mourn, we rejoice knowing that Cynthia has received her heavenly reward. Her light

has not dimmed-it has only risen higher.
