Dane Eugene "Elmer" Picknell, age 38, of Cambridge, MN, formerly of Barron, passed away due to a tragic work accident on October 10, 2025.

Dane was born to Todd and Roxann (Harris) Picknell on August 20, 1987, in Rice Lake. He was lovingly raised by his parents, Todd and Danette (Solie) Picknell, in Barron and attended Barron High School, where he enjoyed pitching for the Barron Bears. He worked for many years in telecommunications, most recently as a Lead Tower Tech for Premise Company.

Dane grew up with an immense love for the outdoors and hunting. He spent countless deer seasons in the woods Up North with his family. He enjoyed hunting both bow and rifle seasons. Many monster bucks fell to the "Great White", including his sister, Bailey's prized buck in 2024.

As a young boy, Dane was given the nickname 'Elmer' during one of many days spent "whacking wabbits" with his hunting buddy, Uncle Paul. He never missed an opportunity to get into the woods doing what he loved most. While the whitetails of northern Wisconsin are safe this season with no Elmer on their tail, his family is certain he has found the perfect hunting grounds in heaven.

Dane didn't always have the easiest road in life, but he always kept a smile on his face and tried to find the best in every situation he ended up in. Everyone who knew Dane, knew he had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone who asked. Dane left a lasting impact on everyone he met, from classmates and coworkers to family, friends, and the many friends who became like family to him.

He is survived by: his dad, Todd; sister, Bailey (Scott) Smith; brother, Jason Halvorson; daughters, Lexi and Shelby; niece, Jorey; nephews, Eli and Cash; grandma, Barb Picknell; grandpa, Bill Gelting; many aunts; uncles; cousins; and countless friends including his chosen 2nd family, Dale, Sam, Jackson, Leonard, Maverick, and Aria.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Danette; mother, Roxann; brother, Mick Halvorson; grandpa, Gene Picknell; grandma, Carol Gelting; and uncle, Paul Schmitz.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 24, from 11:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron, with a Celebration of Life to follow at Stix Pub starting at 3:00 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers are TJ and Landan Romsos, Connor Romsos, and Jed and Jake Kittleson.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron. Online condolences can be made at www.rauschandsteelfuneralhome.com.
