With love and remembrance, the family of Daniel Victor Woeppel shares that he passed away on October 10, 2025, at Faith Regional Health Services, at the age of 76.

Dan was born on February 19, 1949, to Clifford Sr. Woeppel and Floyce Kingston Woeppel. He attended District 45 in Stanton County for elementary school and graduated from Stanton High Schoolin 1967. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, earning a degree in physical education in 1971.

In 1972, Dan married Nancy Timperley, and together they built a loving family, welcoming two children — Jeremy Woeppel and Rachel Woeppel Tinker. Though they later divorced, the love for their children remained a constant throughout Dan’s life.

Dan lived a life defined by sarcasm and a stubborn streak that those who loved him will never forget. Over the years, he held many professions — from educator to truck driver, custodian, and most recently as a dedicated school bus driver throughout Northeast Nebraska. No matter the role, Dan brought commitment and pride to his work.

A passionate sports fan, Dan was devoted to Nebraska Cornhuskers football, proudly collecting memorabilia and cheering on the Huskers through every season. He also gave back to the game as a longtime high school football referee throughout Northeast Nebraska, earning the respect of many in the sports community.

Outside of work and football, Dan was an avid gardener, famous for his bumper crops of potatoes and tomatoes and his pantry full of homemade tomato juice. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures — a hot cup of coffee with a slice of apple pie, cream puff or a kolache — and true to form, potatoes in every shape and form were always on the menu, especially mashed or scalloped.

When his grandchildren were little, Dan proudly donned the red suit and white beard as Santa Claus, delivering Christmas magic with a hearty laugh and a twinkle in his eye — and he kept it up until they finally realized it was Grandpa.

Those who knew Dan best will remember not just his toughness, but his heart. Beneath that stubborn exterior was a man who leaned on his children in life’s most important moments. And of course, no one will forget his sharp wit and playful sense of humor — Dan loved to give people a hard time and he did it with a twinkle in his eye.

Dan is survived by his children Jeremy (Ann) Woeppel of Chambers, Nebraska, and Rachel (Matthew) Woeppel Tinker; his grandchildren Devyn Thor, Claire Woeppel, Rose Woeppel, Judd Woeppel, Julia Tinker, and Jack Tinker; his brothers Clifford (Kamie) Woeppel Sr. of Norfolk, Nebraska; William Woeppel of Stanton, Nebraska; James (Joan) Woeppel of Seattle, Washington; and Edward (Lisa) Woeppel of Firth, Nebraska; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and students.

Dan will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched with his humor and sarcasm.

He truly lived a life his own way.
