Daren was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 20, 1960, to his parents: William H. & Carol J. Owens.
He attended IPS-69 Elementary, graduated Middle School with a host of friends from St. Andrews, and made many life-long friendships while attending Broad Ripple HS, the Home of the ROCKETS. At the age of 12, Daren bought and paid for his first guitar with money he earned from his paper-route. Self-taught, he learned to play guitar from listening to records, the advice of his Uncle Melvin Rhyne, and other professional musicians he was around. Daren went on to attend Indiana State University, continuing to study music. Daren made strides in the music industry as a Tech for major acts such as Prince and having traveled extensively with artist, Brian McKnight. Daren, loved by many and widely known as the leader of the band Toy Factory. Daren had a lifetime love of family, music, and travel, Daren’s connections in the music world are too numerous to mention. He was married to his loving wife Angela, also an important of his band as a vocalist, as was his brother Mark. He will be remembered for his musical abilities on guitar, but mostly for his kindness. Daren is beloved by his family, and friends that he touched.
Daren passed away following a long battle with cancer. His children, Ashley Owens and Jalen Owens were in attendance at his bedside at Community Hospital during his final moments.
Daren is survived by his Wife Angela, children Ashley and Jalen Owens, Sarah Smith, & Ernest Lee, his Mother Carol Harris, and siblings Shannon Ward, Mark Owens, and Colin Carson and a host of Friends and Relatives.
