Derwood James Berryhill a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on February 20th, 2025 in Scurry, TX. Derwood James Berryhill was born on June 21, 1947, in Whitewright, Texas and was raised by his Mother Lidia Laverne Fagan Jones and his Step-Father Coy Ray Jones. Derwood Berryhill was a long-term dedicated and loyal employee. He was employed for 47 years with (PCA) Packaging Corporation of America and went through many buyouts. He was an 18-wheeler truck driver and a warehouse dock worker. Derwood was a proud union member of UPIU. He cherished the friendships he formed with numerous other employees and formed lifelong bonds with them. Derwood married the love of his life Vicki Diane Wright on August 26, 1972, in Garland, Texas. They had two wonderful children together. James Dean Berryhill Sr. was born February 20, 1973, and Karen Kay Berryhill was born January 28, 1977. Derwood was known to his family and friends as “Woody”. He loved spending time with his family and friends, enjoyed visiting and talking with his grandkids and playing with his great-grandson. He loved the outdoors, wildlife, fishing and feeding his birds and squirrels (Chubby) on a regular basis. Woody found extreme joy in fishing but enjoyed eating the fish his son JD and Waylon “Weldon Hussey” caught for him even more. Above all, he LOVED playing bingo for over 50 years where he also made lifelong friends. One of Woody’s last requests was to let everyone know that he fought his battle with cancer long enough to see Trump get re-elected. His exact words he wanted to leave everyone with were “I wouldn’t trade my kids, grandkids, or great grandkids for anything in the world, not even for Trump!” Loved ones that cleared the path to heaven for Derwood were his mother Lidia Laverne Fagan Jones, Stepfather Coy Ray Jones, Father Claude Berryhill, Brother Jerry Morris Jones, Brother Gary Ray Jones, and Mother-In-Law Pearl Virginia Wright. Derwood James Berryhill is survived by his wife Vickie Diane Berryhill. Son and Daughter-in-Law James Dean Berryhill Sr. and Cari Ann Berryhill. His Daughter and Son-in-Law Karen Kay Berryhill Safford and Mark Safford. Grandchildren: Farrahmacie Cody, Cailey Suarez, Alexis Crofton, Abby Bahlman, Victoria Safford, and James Dean Berryhill Jr. Great-grandson Kayson Dean Gaddis. Sisters Anna Marie Jones Fitzgerald and Brenda Lou Jones Moleway and many nieces and nephews.
