James Vandendries Obituary

VANDENDRIES, James August – of Lennon, age 75, died January 2, 2026 at his residence. Honoring James wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Durand Eagles Riders or The Salvation Army. James was born September 11, 1950 in Flint, Michigan to the late Joseph and Irma (Downer) Vandendries. He grew up in Durand, Michigan and graduated from Durand High School with the class of 1968. James also attended U of M of Flint. He married Debra Kotlark on June 30, 1984 in Durand, Michigan and she preceded him in death on September 8, 2016. Prior to his retirement in 2010, James worked for the Canadian National Railroad where he served as Trainmaster, Yardmaster, and Assistant Superintendent with 42 years of service. He was a member of the United Transportation Union where he served as General Chairman and volunteered at the Durand Union Station. He enjoyed riding and collecting Harley Davidsons. James liked old cars, tractors, hunting, fishing and Jack Daniels. He was a member of the Eagle Riders Durand Chapter and loved Ohio State University. GO Buckeyes!! Surviving are: Children, Chrissandra (Craig Karpinen) Leamy, James (Shelly) Vandendries, Joseph (Tiffanie) Vandendries; Grandchildren, Riley "Ridley the Nickel", Austin "Buster" (Jordyn with a Y), Connor "Sparky", Lily "Princess", Nickolas "Bubba", Alyssa "Punkin"; Brother, Joseph Vandendries; Sister-in-law, Tammy (Mark) Borowitz; several nieces and nephews; Best Friend, Jerry "Muggins" Mowen. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Son-in-law, Tom Leamy; Brother, Jerry Vandendries; Brother-in-law, Dennis Wise.
