David Edward 'Dave' Hatch, 63 of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025 surrounded by his family at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Catherine E. (Russell) Hatch with whom he shared the last 21 years.
He was born on April 25, 1962 in Haverhill and was a son of the late Edward E. Hatch and the late Sheila (Ryan) Hatch. He was raised in Haverhill, where he attended the area schools, graduating from Haverhill High School. He continued on to earn his Bachelor's Degree at UMass Lowell.
David worked as a civil engineer in the construction field for many years, contributing to numerous projects including the Big Dig. He later joined the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, where he remained until his retirement. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Organization for Science and Engineers.
He loved food and was an absolute foodie. A fantastic cook, he spent much of his time in the kitchen doing what he loved most. He was also an avid reader, particularly of science fiction, with a collection of hundreds of books. In 2020 David had a book that was published and it was called "Conversations with My Grandfather". A big sports fan, he especially loved the New England Patriots. Known for his humor, he was a jokester at heart-there was never an inappropriate time for a joke or prank.
In addition to his wife, Catherine of Lowell, Dave is survived by his siblings, Paul W. Hatch and his wife, Patricia of Medford, Peter J. Hatch of Salisbury, MA, and Christopher R. Hatch and his wife, Jerilyn of Bradford; and two nieces, Carli & Ruby.
