David Lee Olsen, age 59, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on September 5, 2024, in Blanding, Utah. He was born February 28, 1965, to Richard Harold and Alma Sorensen Olsen, in Gunnison, Utah. He grew up and attended school in Gunnison where he was on the basketball team in high school with his twin brother Darin.
His dad, Richard, built a cabinet shop onto the back of their home around the same year David and Darin were born, where he spent many hours there learning from and helping his dad. David was a contractor and cabinet maker by trade; his children remember spending many hours with him out in the cabinet shop behind Granny and Grandpa's house.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was very good at both.
He spent over two years on the Navajo-Hopi Gardening project for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints working with the Navajo people and teaching them to become self-sufficient. He also worked with inmates at the local jail teaching addiction recovery and holding Sunday Sacrament Meetings.
David loved his kids and grandkids; he enjoyed spending time with them, being silly, telling jokes, singing, working, and was known for his big heart and willingness to help anyone in need.
He was working at the local lumber yard in Blanding, Utah and serving as Branch President in Dennehotso, Arizona at the time of his passing. He was loved by many and will be missed.
David is survived by his spouse Stephanie Olsen, and their son Calan Olsen; his children from a previous marriage: Kayla Bevins and her 2 children; Terah Brinar and her 2 sons Roman and Giovanni; Levi (Kaylynn) Olsen, and Shaydon Olsen; his siblings: Steven R. (Karen) Olsen, Peggy (Paul) Ruesch, Kathleen Carnes, Michael Olsen, and Lynn Olsen.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Darin Olsen and Danny Olsen; nephews: Patrick Michale Ruesch, Robert Kyle Carnes and Brandon Allen Olsen.
Memorial Services were held Saturday September 14, 2024, by branch members in Dennehotso, Arizona.
