David William Piest, 86, a resident of Moberly, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at his home.
David was born on August 22, 1938, in Dunkirk, New York the son of August H. Piest and Edna (Centner) Piest. In the summer of 1975, he married Karen Miller, and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2015.
David had a love for gardening and enjoyed being outside taking care of his vegetable and flower gardens. He enjoyed singing and never passed up an opportunity to sing. Sports were very important to him; he played football during high school and always had a good football story to tell. Also during his younger years, he used to coach his children in football as well as baseball and he always loved going to watch his grandchildren participate in their various sports.
He will be sadly missed and forever remembered by three children, Deborah Bish and husband Daryl of Apple Valley, CA, Wendy Coggins of Vero Beach, FL, Jim Brown and wife Tina of Clifton Hill, MO; nine grandchildren, Crystal Ellena and husband Jason, Tiffany Jackson and husband Robert, Thomas Montague and wife Stephany, Jason Coggins, Amanda Coggins, Kelsey Debenito and husband Vinny, Kyla Roberts and husband Bryant, Mallory Brown, and Logan Brown; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Jensen of Apple Valley, CA.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 40 years, Karen (Miller) Piest; one son, David William Piest; one sister, Luella Clubb; two brothers, Robert Piest and Walt Piest.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in the Jefferson Chapel at Parker-Millard Funeral Service & Crematory with a visitation being held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the service, David will be laid to rest in Columbia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The Ronald McDonald House, 1110 S. College Ave., Columbia, MO 65201.
