Dawn Elizabeth Hegyes, 52, of Perryopolis, passed away October 23, 2025. She was born March 21, 1973 in Charleroi, PA, the youngest daughter of the late Peter E. Hegyes and the late Rouena Faye (Newport) Hegyes.
Dawn graduated from Frazier High School with the Class of 1991 and became a Certified Medical Assistant before later working at U.S. Steel Irwin Works. Ongoing disability issues led her to retire early.
She made many memories with family and friends who brought her a lot of joy over the years. Especially beach trips to the ocean, visiting casinos, motorcycle runs on the back of her dad’s Harley, or on her beloved horse, playing pool in the leagues, canning tomatoes & salsa, and baking homemade pies in her kitchen.
Dawn was somewhat of a crusader in helping those struggling with difficulties. She often opened her home to people who needed her. Her tough yet kind heart will never be forgotten. Nor will her beautiful smile! Dear Dawn Elizabeth, we shall remember you as you were when you were full of life, and will love you forever.
Surviving are her brother, Mark (Lisa) Hegyes, and her sister, Kelli (Rob) Ohler, nephew Aaron Hegyes, niece Megan (Dustin) Leonard, nephew Robert Ohler, and great nephew Griffyn Leonard, all of Perryopolis. Also a step-nephew, Darin (Lauren) Ohler and daughter Natalie, of Dawson. In addition to her parents, Dawn was predeceased by her late ex-husband, Thomas Shanefelter, Jr. of Perryopolis, who remained the love of her life.
Dawn’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Perryopolis, PA. All services are private with immediate family.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life…will be able to separate us from the love of God.” —Romans 8:38-39
