It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Debbie Payne Thomas, 67, of Bethune, SC. She was a Christian, loving wife, daughter, sister, sister -in-law, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
Debbie was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 9, 1957 to Connie G. Payne and the late, Edith B. Payne. Debbie is survived by her husband of forty years, Dennis Thomas of Bethune, SC; four children, Candace Eubanks (Doug) of Pageland, SC, Jamie Thomas (Amanda) of Johnson City, TN, Allen Thomas (Tiffany) of Bethune, SC and Nicholas Horton of Bethune, SC. Debbie was predeceased by Heather Horton, her first child.
Debbie has three grandchildren whom she genuinely loved. Hailey (David) Martin, Clark Thomas and Lawson Horton. She has two great grandchildren, Zach and Zayden Martin. Debbie was thrilled to have had the opportunity to spend time recently with them in California. These memories will be cherished in the years to come. Debbie is survived by her only sibling, Rhonda Joyner (Gary) who shared many precious memories throughout the years. Debbie has many cousins and was loved by all. Debbie had a love for all children and a special love in her heart for her niece's children for whom she helped care for and transported from dance to ball practice. Anna and Luke's kids are Skylar, Makenna, Audra and Noah Croxton and they in turn loved their "Aunt Debbie". Debbie was very fond of her two fur babies, Gunner and Elsa.
Debbie was a member of Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church, where she was a faithful choir leader for years. She loved singing and was a vital part of their choir. Debbie graduated from Mt. Pisgah High School and retired from the Department of Social Services, where she worked for thirty years.
Debbie loved flowers, crocheting and decorating for every occasion. She was an avid Gamecock fan and loved traveling with her husband, Dennis, especially on camping trips or down to the beach. Debbie loved having a good laugh and was often considered the "life of the party." She always enjoyed eating meals that her favorite cook, Dennis, prepared. Debbie loved Jesus and is now able to rock her little girl, Heather. She is free from all pain she experienced on earth and is now in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church in Jefferson, SC.
There will be a Celebration of Life Funeral Service on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tommy-Lee Sexton and Rev. Terry Corder officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Jefferson, SC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church, 1357 Johnson Road, Jefferson, SC 29718 or Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 2140 McBee Highway, Jefferson, SC 29718.
