Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Debra Crouch, a beloved family matriarch, wife, mother, sister, community leader, woman of God, and a dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Debra departed this life on the evening of September 26,2024, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and unshakable strength.
Born on January 28, 1959, in Greenville, MS, Debra was a pillar of her community, deeply committed to uplifting those around her. She found her calling in life for social justice at a very early age. As a 6-year-old first grader, she was apart of the first wave of the Civil Rights Era as she boldly integrated her classroom, going from the Colored Only School to now a mixed schooling environment. These early formative years stayed with her and led her to advocate for children and young adults for the remainder of her life. She would go on to serve as a cornerstone in the juvenile court system, advocating passionately for the rights, rehabilitation, health and well-being of young people. Her work helped transform the lives of many, providing them with the support and guidance needed to reach their full potential. Her compassion, integrity, and unwavering belief in the power of second chances left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A proud and devoted member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Debra embodied the sorority's principles of sisterhood, scholarship, and service. Her leadership within the organization was characterized by a steadfast commitment to community empowerment, social justice, and mentorship. Through her sorority work, she touched countless lives, fostering unity and uplifting young women to achieve their goals. Mrs. Crouch was most passionate about providing scholarships to students graduating high school and served on the Dazzling Diva Day initiative for decades to foster this commitment, often times raising the most funds for her cause. Debra's passion and love was inspired by the fact that as a 12th grader graduating from Greenville High School in Mississippi, she was able to afford to go off to college at the University of Dayton because of the financial support of the organization and influenced her to seek membership in this illustrious organization once she became a successful college student. Witnessing the effect of these efforts firsthand, impacted her life and affirmed her calling.
Debra was able to illustrate her true divinity and faith in God as wife and virtuous woman. Debra married Floyd in August 1981 and acknowledged him as the love of her life. She was proud to be his wife, serving him and the Kingdom of Christ. They shared their love, dreams, and affirmed their legacy by adding biological children to their family. Unexpectantly and suddenly in 1989, God called Floyd home. His wishes for Debra was to find a helpmate to help her raise their children. Debra, however, chose to sacrifice of herself and committed herself to completing what her and Floyd started together. Debra chose not to remarry and instead give of herself untiringly to her children and family. Serving her mother, father, and great aunt until their dying days, and maintaining her relationship with those she loved around her. Her home was one filled with love, excellence, devotion to Christ, and honor. To be in her presence was to experience peace and the love of Christ. Debra's last words spoken on September 26, 2024 was "the blood of Jesus". This blood carried her and covered her loved ones throughout her life and beyond. Debra Crouch was an intercessory prayer warrior and the Matriarch to the McIntyre/Crouch family. Even in her final hours, Debra took time to pray for the sick people she saw at the hospital and encouraged the nurses to care for them. It was important for her that they have someone going to Her Father on their behalf.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit remains and Debra leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and community service. She is survived by her biological daughter Tiffany Crouch-Montgomery (George Montgomery) and biological son, Timothy Crouch (Angela Hutchinson-Crouch) her grandchildren (in order of age) Tavion Crouch, Trinity Montgomery, Trustin Montgomery, Trenden Crouch and Tyler Crouch and her siblings Tina McIntyre-Herndon, Eddie McIntyre (Audrey McIntyre), Dimita (Dee) McIntyre and Leonard McIntyre. Debra has a host of adopted daughters and sons that have extended her reach as matriarch, including her niece/daughter Tre'na McIntyre-Weeks (Andre Weeks) and their children Zion and Aiden Weeks. Collectively this immediate family will forever cherish her memory. Debra was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Floyd Clifton Crouch, mother and father, Albert Lee McIntyre and Lessie Lee McIntyre, her brother Andre McIntyre, and her aunt Thelma Cooper.
