Debrah K. Ottre, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 14, 2025, in Gillette, Wyoming, at the age of 72. She was surrounded by many loved ones as she drew her final breaths.
Born on February 22, 1953, in Lebanon, Oregon to Robert and Mary (Grimes) Morris Sr., and raised in Sweet Home, OR until 1971, Debrah grew up in a large family with 2 sisters and 3 brothers. In those early years in Sweet Home, Debrah grew close to her sisters and brothers, whom she loved whole-heartedly. She was especially close with her sisters, Susan and Laurie. After high school Debrah followed her older sister, whom she adored and looked up to, to Belle Fourche, SD. It was there in Belle Fourche where she endured the loss of her first child but met the man she would call her husband for 50 years. Jack and Deb moved to Gillette in 1977 where they started their family. Deb spent many years working for the Gillette News-Record.
In 2001 Jack, Deb, Jennifer, Mandy, and Cory all packed up and headed west to Sweet Home, OR, the place that Deb always considered home. It was there where she reconnected with her sisters and brother. They all grieved the loss of Mary (Grimes) Morris in 2002. Deb and Jack remained in Sweet Home until 2022 when they made their way back to Gillette. It was here where Debrah spent the final years of her life, surrounded by her children, grand-children, and great grand-children.
Debbie’s favorite hobbies and activities include Bingo, lots of bingo, puzzles and picking mushrooms in the woods and mountains surrounding Sweet Home. However, there may not have been anything she loved more than spending the holidays with family. She loved to see the joyful smiles and hear screams of excitement when her kids and grandkids would open gifts, which she carefully and intentionally picked with love and care.
Debrah was an enthusiastic matriarch, finding boundless joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each treasured moment with them resonated with her love, laughter, and guidance. Debbie leaves behind a beautiful and wonderful family. Her five children are Becky Hanson, Jack Ottre Jr., Jennifer Wilkerson, Amanda Genz, and Cory Ottre.
Debrah was surrounded by loving siblings, David, Johnny, Bobby, Susan, and Laurie, who shared her laughter, tears, and life experiences. Her life was marked by loss, including the passing of her parents, Robert Sr. and Mary Morris, her brother Robert Jr., her brother John, her daughter Dawn Marie, grandson Austin, and great grand-daughter, Priscilla. Debrah carried the memories of these loved ones in her heart, honoring them in everyday moments.
Debbie had a strong Faith in Christ. She was a member of the Church of Christ for many years. She prayed for her family everyday and loved to watch sermons online. She drew near to the Lord as he drew near to Her.
As we remember Debrah K. Ottre, we celebrate a life well-lived, a woman whose heart was as vast as the forests she adored, whose laughter echoed in the halls of family gatherings, and whose love transcended the limits of this world. Her legacy will forever remain in the hearts of her husband, Jack Ottre, her children, and her twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In their lives, she continues to live on, her spirit illuminating the paths they walk.
