Marie was born on October 28, 1951, in Dowagiac, one of nine children to Alvin and Evelyn Flossie (Garrett) Smith.
Surviving are three children – Lisa (Wayne) Ottinger, William Cook, and Kenny Cook Jr; three grandchildren – Justin Ottinger, Austin Cook and Abby Cook; six great-grandchildren – Ava, Braxton, Nila, Aubrey, Benson, and Karoline; four siblings – Ruby Rampaio, Alvin Smith, David Smith and Wesley Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Cook; two children – Dennis Cook and Brenda Cook; infant grandson – Brandon Cook; and four siblings – Maude Schoff, Estella Jakie; Daniel Smith, and William Batchler.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 3:00pm-6:00pm on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Dowagiac VFW Post 1855, 472 E. Division St.
Private inurnment will be in Keeler Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, Dowagiac.
