Oliver DeVaughn Valentine was born November 28, 1943, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of John & Merle Kelly Valentine. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and Lively Vo Tech. DeVaughn retired as a maintenance engineer with Bainbridge State Hospital. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
DeVaughn was a commanding presence with a soft spot for making memories. He enjoyed cooking, and his pot roasts and breakfasts for the kids became core memories. The wide-open spaces of outdoors captured his attention. For years, he combined his love for the outdoors with his work life, farming the family land. DeVaughn also loved to hunt, fish, cruise on the pontoon boat, and camp. His favorite location was Wedowee, AL where small town charm infused with lake life to the point of perfection according to DeVaughn.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Theresa D. Valentine; his children, Vontae Jones (Sam) of Bainbridge, Jodi Schwanbeck (John) of Maine, and Scott Holcombe (Rebecca) of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Peyton & Chad, Abbie, London, Isabella, Poppy, and Avery; and his great-grandchildren, Tyson, Collins, and Carter. In addition to his parents, DeVaughn was preceded in death by his son, John Michael Valentine, and his sister, Faye Batts.
