Donald Acton Obituary

Rev. Donald Walton Acton, age 91, of Knoxville, TN., passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024 surrounded by family. Don came from a large family of eight siblings, and attended Vincent High School in Birmingham, AL. He was a graduate of Bethel college, where he met the love of his life, Mary. Don was a Cumberland Presbyterian Pastor for 68+ years, but before that he was a coach and teacher for many years before answering God's call to the ministry. For sixteen years he was an Executive director for Alabama Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranches. Don was a huge Alabama fan, and extremely devoted to his family.
He is preceded in death by parents, Armon C. and Thelma Mae Acton, Ruth Harper; 4 siblings. His loving wife of 68 years, Mary, passed away one day after him.
Don is survived by children, Tanda Solomon (Walter) of Knoxville, Tara Gillespie (Phil) of Knoxville, Preble Acton (Cindy) of Winchester, TN., John Acton (Tammy) of Lascassas, TN; 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:15 am at Virtue Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 725 Virtue Rd, Knoxville, TN 37934. Funeral service will begin at 11:30 am with graveside to follow at Virtue Church Cemetery.
