Donald R. "Don" Gates, 79, of Vienna, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024 at WVU Camden Clark Medical Center.
He was born April 13, 1945, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Raliegh and Geraldine Richards Gates. Don was a graduate of Williamstown High School and was retired from Cytec Industries with many years of service. He was a member of Grand Central Ave Church of Christ and loved dining out, driving in the mountains, fishing with his brothers, and spending time with his family.
Don is survived by his children, Marie Holtz of Steubenville, OH, Alan Gates (Heather) of Williamstown, Daniel Gates of Walker, and Blossom Broadwater of Weirton, WV; mother of his children, Carmen Gates; two sisters, Molly Ice of Parkersburg and Judy Hutson (Everett) of Vienna; seven grandchildren, Cullen Gates (Luisa) of Clovis, NM, Meadow Gates of Huntington, Alison Gates of Williamstown, Tony Holts(Kayla) of Totonto, OH, Andrew Holtz (Allison) of Steubenville, James Morgan of Marietta, and Jessica Broadwater of Weirton; six great-grandchildren, Ava, Bethany, Lewis, Aiden, Leo, and Destiny; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Gates; three brothers, Gary, Randy and infant Daniel Gates, and brother-in-law, Larry Ice.
Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025 at the Grand Central Ave. Church of Christ.
Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, has been entrusted with Don's final wishes and is honored to serve the Gates family.
