Donald William Moore, 80, of Dewey, a quiet hero and beloved servant of God, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
Don was born September 3, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Richard and Mary "Louise" (Boner) Moore. Don and his older brother David were raised in a Christian home and learned to love the Lord at a young age. Don graduated from Dewey High School in 1963 and attended John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Education, majoring in Social Studies in 1967.
Because men were needed for the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving three years. He trained as an operating room specialist and surgical technician in San Antonio, Texas. He served one year in the field of battle as a field medic, caring for soldiers wounded in battle. During that time he was exposed to harsh chemicals and conditions in the field of battle.
After his honorable discharge, Don taught at Markoma Bible Academy in Tahlequah while he worked towards his master's degree in secondary education. He joined the Far East Broadcast Company as a missionary, teaching at Faith Academy in Manila, Philippines. He attended and served at English speaking Baptist Church, receiving a special accommodation for Fulfilling the Great Commission of Evangelism.
In January 1990, his father's failing health led Don to come home to help care for his parents. That was when he started working as a maintenance supervisor/custodian for Bartlesville First Wesleyan Church, serving full-time for 22 years then continuing part-time until his passing.
Don was a member of the Disabled Veterans (DAV), Dewey chapter serving as Chaplin. He provided a much needed assistance for disabled veterans to transport them to the VA clinic in Tulsa and surrounding communities.
Don had a heart for God and a passion for Bible study, with an emphasis on Bible prophesy and missions. He taught Bible classes at Bartlesville First Wesleyan Church and lead small group discussions. He loved hymns and sang in the church choir for 35 years, likely the longest serving choir member. Don was a prayer warrior and for years he faithfully attended the 6 a.m. Wednesday prayer meetings at church. Don was a strong supporter of Missions, serving in the local church and Voice of Martyrs (VOM), both in time and financially.
He was very active his whole life and enjoyed hiking and camping in the mountains of Colorado and Branson, and traveling with his brother, David, and lifelong friend, Phil Baty. They had great fun at Silver Dollar City, especially attending Southern Gospel concerts. The brothers traveled all over the United States, including trips to New Jersey and Philadelphia, visiting family along the way. Don loved history and enjoyed visiting Civil War sites, like Gettysburg. He traveled to Israel, twice, and loved it so much he believed every Christian should visit there.
Don's family cherishes their memories of his 80th birthday last September, when they surprised him with a party at Sterling's Grille. His eyes were so big when they jokingly handed him the bill at the end.
An obvious characteristic of Don was that he was faithful and punctual. Some have described him as a Quiet Faithful Servant. So much so, his family jokingly said you could, in fact, set your clock by him. He always showed up at the exact time, never early, nor late.
Most importantly, Don loved the Lord. He loved his brother and family, and he loved people. He dedicated his entire life to serving the Lord as a quiet hero.
Don is survived by his brother, David and his wife Delary, Voncile Jennings, Jennifer and Brian Brewington, Ridge Brewington, Ryder Brewington and Austin Causey. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Bartlesville First Wesleyan Church with Pastor Joe Colaw officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Wesleyan Church, Missions outreach. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 113 S. Osage Ave.,
