José Mendoza Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved José Manuel Mendoza.  He was unexpectedly taken away from us far too soon on October 15, 2025.

José was born on January 16, 1965 in Fort Worth, TX and grew up in Nacogdoches, TX. As a child, he was fascinated with anything related to the weather and eventually followed his passion, receiving his degree in Meteorology in Denver CO. He ultimately settled in San Antonio where he married and raised his family.

Words cannot fully express his good-natured spirit, generosity, sense of humor nor his sincerity. José was a selfless, caring and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His faith and love for his family were at the center of his life.

He had a genuine heart, treating everyone with respect, and never having an unkind word to say about anyone.  His love of nature was shared with his family through hiking, camping, and road trips. We will all miss José’s smile, laughter and beautiful soul tremendously. We are forever grateful to have had him in our lives and our hearts will truly suffer from his loss.

He was preceded in death by parents Manuel and Irma Mendoza and infant sister Linda. He is already so very missed by his wife, Adriana Mendoza; daughters Katherine Mendoza and Cynthia Contreras; granddaughters Nevaeh, Nylah, and Nayanh; sisters Rosario Haghighatian (Reza), Lucy Ramos (Paul), Maria Spongberg (David), Anita Gibbs, Celia Mendoza, Alma Mendoza; and extended close-knit family of cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as friends and colleagues.

I had the honor of working side by side with Jose for 20 years. He was always hard working, loyal, and dedicated just like he was to his family. He was a big part of our Transport family and we are all going to miss him. Rest easy my friend. This is not a good bye but a see you later. Until we see each other again in Heaven.

Jose was quiet, kind and compassionate in a place that always seemed chaotic. Some times I would see him on the weekend when he would come in to fill out his pay sheet for the week. We would talk small talk, we were both girl dads. He was a great guy and will be missed. My heart goes out to his family in this sudden tragedy as they morn. I lost my daughter in an accident and someone once told me that grief is just an expression of our love for the person we lost. It’s ok to grieve, it’s ok to remember as much as it hurts at times because that’s love. His memory will live with all the people’s lives that he impacted and most of all his family. RIP Jose Mendoza.

This family has always been such a bright light in the communities in which they have touched. Growing up with these kiddos was loads of fun. His sister Ana and I would raid his record collection and often chose to play Roxy Music. He had great taste in music! He was always a hard worker, quiet and took care of his business. I am so grieved for his sisters, his wife, children and grandchildren and all of those who considered Jose a friend.
