Doris Hall Obituary

STAR LAKE – Doris Jones Hall, age 95, passed away at Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown, NY on September 1, 2024.

Doris was born on March 12, 1929 in Watertown NY to the late Maurice and Helen (Dean Annand) Jones. She graduated High School from Immaculate Heart Academy in Watertown on June 21, 1946. She received her Registered Nurse certification through Mercy Hospital's School of Nursing on September 2, 1949 and then her initial NY State License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse on February 16, 1950.
Doris married Frederic G. Hall on July 15, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Watertown officiated by Rev. B.C. Dostie. The newlyweds lived in Harrisville for a short period until relocating to Star Lake where he worked as an electrician for J&L Steel at Benson Mines and Doris was hired with the original group of Registered Nurses in 1951 at the newly constructed Clifton-Fine Hospital.
Doris worked in numerous capacities at Clifton-Fine Hospital during her 40-plus year nursing career, including operating room and emergency room nurse. She was the Director of Nursing for many years and served eight years as the Clifton-Fine Hospital's CEO/Administrator from 1969 through 1977.
She was an avid Montreal Expos baseball fan. She enjoyed family trips to games in Montreal and listened to most other games on the radio. She also enjoyed the challenge of watching Jeopardy every night, reading daily, and knitting; especially afghans to give away.
Doris is survived by her two sons, Dr. Michael Hall and his wife, Karen of Saint Mary's, PA, and Mark Hall of Star Lake; two grandchildren, Matthew (Gina Sypula Hall) and Zachary (Melinda Moran Hall); two great-grandchildren, Luke & Blake Hall, with a third due in October; and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents Maurice (5/13/1984) and Helen (4/22/2004) Jones; her husband Frederic (12/16/2019) her brother, Richard Jones (3/4/2016); and sisters Norma (Richard) Lakely (7/1/2011) and Maureen Jones (9/24/1941).
