Doris Jean Johnson 92 of Tomah passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Serenity House. She was born Dec. 16th 1931 to Arthur W. and Mabel C (Anderson) Johnson. She was a member of the Tomah Senior High School Graduating Class of 1949. Her family owned and operated the Peter Johnson Shoe Store for three generations, starting in 1895 by her grandfather Peter Johnson. Doris and her brother Arthur J. operated the business until it was sold in 1987. She was a long-time member of the First congregational United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Ladies Circle and helped with serving for the funeral luncheons. She volunteered at the ABC Store and at the Tomah Food Pantry. Doris had many close friends; and enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center. Doris was very close with her nieces and her great-nephew. She spent her holidays and every life celebration with their families. She relied on Linda, Joe, and Adam, and had a special bond with their family. She will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Doris is survived by two nieces Linda (Joe) Bubnich of Tomah, Barbara (Kevin) Coleman of Combined Locks, a niece-in-law Barbara Johnson, a great nephew Adam (Lindsey) Bubnich of Tomah, 3 great-nieces, Tabitha Chapdelaine, Dayna Johnson – Lawton, and Karen Beth (John) MacQueen, great-great nieces and nephews Jack Bubnich, Alex, Sabrina, and Emma Chapdelaine, Keegan and Savana Lawton, 2 cousins Chris (Myra) Andersen and Joan Ebersold.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Arthur J, sister-in-law Mary and nephew Larry Johnson, and a life time friend Barb Felker.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 12, 2024, 11:00 A.M. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 115 W. LaCrosse St., Tomah. Pastor Beth Voigt will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Memorial Garden.
Family and friends are invited for visitation on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online Condolences may be sent to www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com
The family requests memorials be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ or Tomah Hospice Touch in Doris's memory.
