Doris Renee Manning, age 73 of Hopkinsville, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024, at St. Thomas Hospital West in Nashville, TN of natural causes. The family has chosen cremation with a Celebration of Life to be held later in April. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with the care of their loved one.
Mrs. Manning was born on April 3, 1951, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles Carl Johnson, Sr., and Jennie Mae Reynolds Johnson. Affectionately known as Nana, she was a strong faith believer, a wonderful wife, amazing mother, and her door was always open for anyone. Doris spent her time taking care of the home and her family. She was certified and employed through the state as a caregiver. She was an artist and was awarded the humanitarian award from the State of Kentucky. She was a firm believer in supporting and donating to the Hopkinsville Police Department, Hopkinsville Fire Department, and the State Troopers. Doris was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Watkins Manning, Sr.; her son, Gary W. Manning, Jr.; her brothers, Charles Carl Johnson, Jr., Murray Johnson; and her sisters, Christine Walker and Diane Winmon.
Survivors include her beloved daughters, LaTessa R. Smith of Broken Arrow, OK, LaRayna C. Manning-Perez of
Hopkinsville, KY; her sister and best friend, Carolyn Cason Parker of Charles County, Maryland; her twelve grandchildren, three of which lived with her full time and took care of her in her old age to her dying days, LaKismet V. Manning, LaRissa C. Brown, and LaTicia L. Perez; and her seventeen great-grandchildren and another on the way due end of January.
If you were lucky enough to have met Doris you knew she was a strong minded, spunky, kindhearted woman who really loved her family, especially her grand babies. May she finally rest in eternal peace.
