Dorothy passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Oklahoma City at the age of 97 years. She was born to the late Thomas Edward Ormon and Mollie (Druckhammer) Ormon on April 16, 1927, in Dallas, TX. Her family moved to Ft. Worth, where she grew up. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan College (TWC) in Ft. Worth in 1947 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
She married Joe Frank Beck on June 7, 1947, in Ft. Worth. After marrying, they lived in Denver, CO, where she worked as a substitute teacher. They moved to Kansas City, MO, where she worked for Standard Oil Co. as a stenographer. From there, they returned to Texas about 1950 and settled in Dallas, where their children, Diane and Joe, were born. They lived there until 1960, when they moved to Richardson. In 1977, Dorothy and Joe made their final move to Beck Ranch in Tishomingo. Dorothy continued to live on the ranch after Joe passed on September 12, 1992, in Tishomingo until 2017, when she moved to Oklahoma City to be near her daughter.
Dorothy worked as a teller for the Bank of Johnston County for several years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Christian Church and was the church secretary for many years. She later joined the United Methodist Church. Dorothy sang in the choirs at both churches.
She was a charter member of the Holisso Study Club and helped organize a fund-raising committee to seek donations for the building of the Tishomingo Library.
Dorothy enjoyed oil painting, knitting, sewing, cross-stitch, birdwatching, hand & foot, bridge, jewelry making, and was an avid reader. She followed the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She looked forward to playing bridge with her friends in Tishomingo and had fond memories of Dorothy Peters, Lois Keltner, Bert King, Novice Kirkpatrick, Nina Bauman, Carol Carlton, Peggy Cecil, Audra Troutman, Wanda Glenn, Anne LaFitte, and others through the years.
Three special ladies that crossed her path and became dear friends were Janet Richardson of Tishomingo; Elaine Bruno of Tulsa, formerly from Tishomingo; and Deb Davenport of Mead, OK. Each one had a special bond with Dorothy.
Known as G-g by her great-grandchildren, she looked forward to Christmas, Thanksgiving, and birthday gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a great cook and made beautiful birthday cakes. She and her mother handmade felt Christmas stockings through the years for everyone in the family.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Diane Beck Kimberlin and husband Allen of Oklahoma City; her son, Joe F. Beck, Jr. and wife Ann of Tishomingo; two grandchildren, Taylor East and wife Lyndsey of Ada, and Travis East and wife Melissa of Denton; three great-grandchildren, Tyson East of Ada, and Emma East and Kinley East of Denton as well as her niece Melissa Ormon Trammell and husband Brian of Frisco and sister-in-law Ruby Nell Ormon of Dallas as well as other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, on September 12, 1992, in Tishomingo; her parents, Tom and Mollie Ormon; her brother, Harry Ormon and his first wife Ruby B. Ormon, and other family members.
Arrangements were made under the direction and care of DeArman-Clark Funeral Home in Tishomingo. Friends and family may leave online condolences for the family at www.dearmanfuneralhome.com.
