Dorothy M. Hill was born on May 23, 1936, to Ella and Woodrow Kendrick Sr In Molena, Georgia. She was the 1st of three children. Her parents decided to move the family to Columbus, Ohio when she was 6 years old. They lived in the area of Columbus which was called Flytown. Dorothy and her brothers Woodrow Jr and James Kendrick attended Columbus Public Schools. She attended Central High School.
Dorothy accepted the Lord as her Saviour early in her teenage years and worshipped with her family at the Mt. Herman Missionary Baptist Church. She would eventually became of member of the Inspirational Choir at Mt. Herman and served as the choir's treasurer for many years.
Dorothy married Arthur C. Owens Sr. in 1953. Together they had 3 children, Arthur Jr, Tina and Larry. She loved spending time with her family. Many of the family get togethers were held at her home because of Dorothy's love to cook. You would always find her in the kitchen especially on Saturday evenings making Sunday dinner and baking a new dessert for that week. She also loved to sew and enjoyed making ceramics.
Dorothy worked for the United Way and also at The Ohio State University in the printing department.
After the death of her husband Arther, she continued to work at OSU and care for her youngest son, Larry.
Dorothy later married Horace Hill Sr and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had 9 bonus children, 6 in Tulsa and 3 more in Columbus. She worked as a switchboard operator at St. Francis Hospital for 15 years. She and Horace Sr. Retired from their jobs and spent a lot of time traveling. They loved going on cruises. While at home they would wake up early each morning and meet at the park with a group of people who would walk 5 miles each day.
After Horace's death Dorothy decided to move back to Columbus, Ohio in 2010. After moving back she joined First Church of God. She loved Sunday services and Wednesday Bible Study. She was also an active member of the Senior Lift ministry. Dorothy loved meeting new friends at First Church.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Woodrow and Ella, brothers Woodrow Jr and James, sons Arthur and Larry Owens bonus son Larry Hill, son-in-law Mark Belcher and grandson Cory Hill.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Tina Belcher; and bonus children, Kim Barbee, Wayne Hill, Darryl Hill, Wiley (Tracie) Hill, Edwin Hill, James Williams, Horace Hill Jr, Shirley (Sam) Green; daughter in laws,Loretta Owens and Dona Owens; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
