Peggy Jean Manley March 6, 1939 – August 21, 2024 Peggy J. Manley, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on August 21, 2024.
Peggy Jean, known also as Dorothy and affectionately as "PJ, " was born in Corning, NY, and was a lifelong Christian, known for her resilience and determination to overcome obstacles, including physical debilities from childhood. Her father, Harry Manley, and mother Margaret (Walrath) Manley were devoted followers of Jesus and imparted their faith to PJ.
Peggy Jean lived in Ithaca for many years and was employed at Cornell University for a time. She was an avid poet and song writer, who made many friends over the years and loved to share her faith. She also enjoyed playing games, especially Yahtzee, at which she excelled. She was very sharp and not afraid to ask questions or share her views. She had a very generous spirit and donated regularly to various missions. Her later years were spent in nursing homes, and she made local history in Ithaca when she married Llewellyn Seely, a man she met while living at Cayuga Ridge, in Ithaca. Her husband predeceased her.
PJ is survived by one sibling, her half-sister, Rebecca Buck, and several nieces and nephews. She leaves many good friends who treasured her, especially Mary Crawford, with whom she once lived for a number of years. Mary said that PJ was like a sister to her. A memorial service for Peggy Jean is scheduled at 1 PM on Wednesday, August 28, at Thrive Church, 318 Johnson Road, Freeville, NY. For more information about Peggy Jean or the memorial service, please call the church at (607) 844-3000. Excerpt from "His Love's Mighty Magnitude, " by P.J. Manley: I love Daddy 'cause He loves me. His love for me is plain to see. Eternal life in Him is mine, And through my heart, His love does shine. Our fellowship is sweet and pure, and it forever will endure.

Dear Precious Peggy,
We will miss your strong and faithful warrior spirit. You have left us with many memories of you being a soldier for the Lord all throughout Ithaca. Rain, sleet, or snow you would take the bus from Etna to Ithaca to eat with others at Loaves and Fishes and walk the streets of Ithaca telling all who you met about Jesus. You loved all people and you were not a respector of persons. You would lay hands on people and would believe for them the faith they needed. As you started to slow down and age you decided to live at Cayuga Ridge facilty. When I visited you I was not surprised to see you ministering and helping others. You have left an impact on all of us Peggy. May we remember your strong spirit and be as fearless as you were to fight the good fight for others. We love you Dear friend. Thank you for having Christ in you for the hope of Glory! May you finally enjoy being in the complete presence of your loving Father.
