Dorothy Manley Obituary

Peggy Jean Manley March 6, 1939 – August 21, 2024 Peggy J. Manley, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on August 21, 2024.
Peggy Jean, known also as Dorothy and affectionately as "PJ, " was born in Corning, NY, and was a lifelong Christian, known for her resilience and determination to overcome obstacles, including physical debilities from childhood. Her father, Harry Manley, and mother Margaret (Walrath) Manley were devoted followers of Jesus and imparted their faith to PJ.
Peggy Jean lived in Ithaca for many years and was employed at Cornell University for a time. She was an avid poet and song writer, who made many friends over the years and loved to share her faith. She also enjoyed playing games, especially Yahtzee, at which she excelled. She was very sharp and not afraid to ask questions or share her views. She had a very generous spirit and donated regularly to various missions. Her later years were spent in nursing homes, and she made local history in Ithaca when she married Llewellyn Seely, a man she met while living at Cayuga Ridge, in Ithaca. Her husband predeceased her.
PJ is survived by one sibling, her half-sister, Rebecca Buck, and several nieces and nephews. She leaves many good friends who treasured her, especially Mary Crawford, with whom she once lived for a number of years. Mary said that PJ was like a sister to her. A memorial service for Peggy Jean is scheduled at 1 PM on Wednesday, August 28, at Thrive Church, 318 Johnson Road, Freeville, NY.
