Dorothy Jean Schoenhals (Gripp), 88, of Shattuck, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2025.
Dorothy was born May 12, 1937, in Pampa, Texas, to Guy Walter Gripp and Bessie (Seitz) Gripp. She and her twin brother, Richard (Dick), were the youngest of four children.
Her family later moved to Panhandle, Texas, where Dorothy graduated from Panhandle High School in 1955. Soon after, she began working at the First National Bank of Panhandle on August 1, 1955. Dorothy built an impressive career there over nearly 18 years. On her final day at the bank, May 14, 1973, the Board of Directors honored her by declaring the date "Dorothy Gripp Schoenhals Day."
On January 21, 1971, Dorothy married Daniel (Dan) Ray Schoenhals. In 1973, they moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma, to take over the family farm. Their son, Brian Scott Schoenhals, was born on January 7, 1974.
Dorothy quickly became part of the community in Shattuck, joining Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she faithfully served and volunteered whenever possible. In 1976, she began working at Newman Memorial Hospital, where she dedicated nearly four decades of service before retiring in 2015.
Family was always at the center of Dorothy's life. Her nieces and nephews affectionately called her "Aunt Dolly" and loved her like a second mother. She was a devoted, caring, and incredible mother, aunt, and friend, always placing her family's needs above her own. She also had a special bond with her beloved dog, Sadie.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Richard (Dick) Gripp; her brother, John Gripp; her sister, Martha (Gripp) Cooper; and her brother-in-law, Jay Cooper.
She is survived by her son, Brian Scott Schoenhals of Shattuck, OK; her stepson, Dr. Jeff Schoenhals and his wife, Barbara, of Tulsa, OK; her sister-in-law, Helenn Gripp of Salida, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
