Douglas Ayers, age 81, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at home. Doug was born in the Town of Milford, New York, the son of Glenn and Elizabeth Ayers. He graduated from Milford Central High School in 1961, furthering his education with degrees in Accounting from the State University of New York at Delhi and Business Administration/Economics from Rollins College, Orlando, FL.
Doug worked for The National Bank and Trust of Norwich, NY, RCA International Service Corporation/Eastern Space & Missile Center, Patrick AFB, Florida, and Great Lakes Higher Education in Madison, WI.
During the summer of 1961, he met Claudia Tyler of Worcester, NY, and they were married in 1964. They lived in Oneonta, NY and Norwich, NY before moving to Melbourne, FL in 1966. Together, they had two daughters, Kimberly Ann and Amy Eileen. In 1985, they moved to Sun Prairie. In 1999, they moved to Madison, and in 2024, they returned to Sun Prairie.
Doug was a lifetime member of Sun Prairie United Methodist Church where he served in many ways. Also, he was an active volunteer for many organizations.
Doug loved art, the game of golf, and was an avid sports fan.
Doug is survived by his wife, Claudia; daughters, Kimberly (Randal) Norton of Madison and Amy (Andrew) Nowlan of Stoughton; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Georgia, Nicholas, and Nathan; and his sister, Kay (Daniel) Brienza of Portlandville, NY.
A Memorial Service for Doug will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church, 702 North Street, Sun Prairie with Pastor Jenny Arneson presiding. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the church. A luncheon will immediately follow services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Doug’s name to the Sun Prairie United Methodist Church, Agrace Hospice Care, or a charity of your choice.
