Doug was known for his love of boating and his joy in living life on the water. Whether navigating the open waves or spending quiet moments by the shore, he found his greatest happiness surrounded by nature and friends who shared his passion.
He is survived by his sister, Janice (Andrew) Maken; his niece and nephews, Steven Furay, Laurie (James) Richards, and Gregory (Jennifer) Maken; and his great-nieces and nephews, Eleanor, Raymond, Ezra, and Beatrice. He will also be fondly remembered by his many boating friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Cremation has been entrusted with Kaatz Funeral Directors, Mt. Clemens

I was introduced to Doug about a decade ago from a mutual friend. The first time I went boating on Lake St Clair was in this boat (rebuilt by Doug) with my friend and Doug. A few years later I bought that boat from my friend. Doug helped me navigate maintenance and repairs with it and ultimately we became friends. I'm going to miss our conversations and his humor.
