Douglas Ray Sewell, 77, son of the late Elbert Ray and Gladys Wilson Sewell, joined his parents and sisters June Poor, Shirley Poor and Patricia Vollmer, in eternal rest on Sept. 25, 2024, while he was an inpatient of the VA Hospice Care Unit on Leestown Road, Lexington KY. Doug was a US Army Veteran and a self-employed farmer. He loved his cattle, Guy (his Westie dog), and in earlier days, he liked to hunt and fish. He leaves his childhood memories with his sister Kay Scott, husband Donald, and his many nieces, nephews and extended family members. His family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM on Sunday the 29th of September, with a Funeral Service at 3:00 PM at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be on Wednesday, October 2, in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens at 1:30 PM. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Ben Taylor, Martin Traugott, Troy Hager, Darrin Vollmer, John Allen Vollmer, and Joey Blackmer. "The kiss of the sun for pardon, the song of the birds for mirth; One is nearer God's Heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth." All arrangements are under the direction of Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home and we would like to express our deepest Sympathy to Doug's family and friends.
