Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel in Chesaning on Oct. 8, 2024.
Edith Ann Kettler, age 88, was called home to Jesus on Thursday, October 3, 2024 surrounded by her family. Edith Ann Spike was born on March 3, 1936, to Cyril and Myra Spike in Plymouth, MI. She was a baptized child of God and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her family moved to the Owosso area in 1945. She graduated from Chesaning High School in 1954. She married Bill Kettler on September 24, 1955, and recently celebrated their 69th anniversary. They were blessed with 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Edith kept busy with raising a family and many other activities in 4-H, Extension & Farm Bureau. Edith was an active member at her church, Christ Lutheran in Oakley, and prior to that Salem Lutheran in Owosso, serving in Ladies Aid, the Altar Guild and choir. Edith was an accomplished seamstress and award-winning quilter. She enjoyed many crafts, gardening, baking, canning, cooking and especially the four-generation family camping & fishing trips. She loved having family gatherings at their home. The Kettler family hosted several exchange students from other countries. Bill and Edith enjoyed traveling and visiting friends & family across the states and in other countries, too.
Left to cherish Edith's memory are her loving husband, William F. Kettler; her children, Dale (Nancy) Kettler, Ann Marie (David) Turnwald, Rita Lynn (Thomas) Ogg, Mary (Ron) Shaffer, David (Michelle) Kettler; 14 grandchildren; 28 great- grandchildren; siblings, Patty Lou (John) Talsma, Richard (Madelon) Spike, Bill (Deb) Spike, Diann Jenkins, Tom (Barb) Spike; as well as many other loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.
A service of Christian comfort and victory will take place at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 12 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel in Chesaning on Friday, Oct 11, from 2-7pm, and Oct 12, 10-11am at the church prior to the service. Edith's earthly remains will be interred at Wildwood Cemetery to await Jesus' return and the resurrection of the dead.
