Edward Coleman, age 83, of Jamboree, KY, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, while an inpatient in the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville, KY, while surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 29, 1941, in Jamboree, he lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to his family and community. He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel B. and Pearl (Daugherty) Coleman, as well as his brothers, Leonard and Leon Coleman.
After volunteering, Edward proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. After his military service, he moved to Chicago, Illinois. Here, he met the love of his life, Frances Perkins, a pretty young waitress who stole his heart. Edward worked in Chicago as a shipping supervisor for eleven years. He then studied at Greer Technology College, where he graduated as an auto body repairman. Upon returning home to Kentucky, Edward worked as a coal miner for many years while also honing his skills as an auto body repairman. Edward eventually opened his own body shop and was known for his expertise. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft.
An attendee of the Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church in Freeburn, Edward found solace and joy in his faith. In his leisure time, Edward enjoyed bowling, discussing history, and spending quiet moments on the porch watching the birds with a cup of coffee. He had a love for nature and music, often sharing stories of his family history as if they were present. His favorite music artists included Elvis and Willie Nelson, and his favorite gospel hymn, "How Great Thou Art,"resonated deeply with him, reflecting his faith and love for life.
He was a loving husband to his wife, Frances Elaine nee (Perkins) Coleman, and a cherished father to his children: Jay Lasher and his wife Cheryl; Dana Ratliff; Valerie Kenkel and her husband Bob; and Regina Compton and her husband Joe. He also leaves behind his beloved siblings: Chester Coleman and his wife, Ginger; Charles Randell Coleman and his wife, Joann; Norma Ray and her husband, Dave; Della Dotson; Anna DeLong and her husband Eddie; and Alma Casey and her husband, Jimmy.
Edward's legacy as Poppy continues through his grandchildren: Emilie Taylor and her husband Todd; Edward Ratliff; Alex Ratliff; Ethan Lasher; Ryan Eads; Parker Eads and his wife Bekah; Yelena Kenkel; Katey Compton; and Lucy Votruba. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Nash Eads, Todd Taylor III, and Aria Taylor. Edward also had a special bond with his little dog, Lily, whom he cherished as one of his own children. A host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends also survive him.
The family will receive friends in the Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church, 41690 State Hwy 194 E, Phelps, KY 41553, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, and Friday, October 4, 2024, from 6 to 10:00 pm, with a service on Friday beginning at 7:00 pm
Honoring services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in the church, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Benny Freeman will officiate, and military honors will be conducted by the DAV Chapter 141, Belfry, KY, following the service. Edward will then be laid to rest in the Cole Hollow Cemetery, with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
Edward Coleman will be remembered as a loving father, husband, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. His family and friends will carry his memory forward, celebrating a life well-lived.
