Edward W. Galler, Sr., 88, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
Edward was born in Hartford, son of the late Edward A. and Edna M. (Woods) Galler, and resided in East Granby and Windsor for most of his life. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief on B-26s for the 11th Tactical Recon Squadron stationed at Kimpo, Korea and Itami Air Base, Japan. His service ended on C-119s for the 464th Troop Carrier Squadron at Pope Air Force Base, Fort Bragg, NC. He was honorably discharged and pursued a career in a mechanical field working as a Diesel Mechanic for H.O. Penn Machinery, in assembly at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, assembly technician at Combustion Engineering nuclear division, and retired in 2001, after 18 years of service, as Senior Maintenance Mechanic for Ensign Bickford Industries. Edward was a past master of Parents Without Partners, Credo's and The Yankee Hostelers.
Ed had many interests and hobbies throughout his life, SCUBA diving, fishing, sailing, camping, hiking, skiing, bicycling, kayaking, Sea-Dooing, and delighted in cooking great meals for the holidays. In retirement, Ed did volunteer work and enjoyed cooking and feeding the homeless with the famous Joe the Barber. He loved winter vacationing in the Florida Keys and was a member of the Sunset Singers at Key Colony Beach.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Robin Lester of Canastota, NY; his son, Edward W. Galler, Jr.; his sister, Janice Danks and her husband Gordon of Columbia; his partner, Betty Magee; mentor, Joni Russak; good friend, Lizette Story; his beloved dog, Nelson, who is waiting at Rainbow Ridge; and many other relatives and friends.
