Edward Lee Smith, Jr. (Eddie) . . . passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on January 1, 1939, in Savannah, Georgia, Eddie led a life filled with service, dedication, and love. Eddie graduated from Savannah High School in 1956 and proudly served in the Army National Guard for eight years. His professional career was marked by his long tenure at Southern Marine Supply Company, where he retired in 2001. A passionate mariner, Eddie was a dedicated member of both the Richmond Hill and Tybee Marine Rescue Squadrons (MRS) and had the honor of serving as skipper of the Tybee MRS for one year. Eddie was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward and Deloris Smith, and his brother, Johnny Smith. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 62 years, Faye Hall Smith, and his cherished family, including his children Edward Lee Smith, III, Leslie Dawn Mikell (Scott), David Suttle (Pat), and Ginger Avioli (Rick). Eddie also leaves his dear sisters Patty Burke and Barbara Jean Rustin, along with many nieces and nephews. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, to whom he was lovingly known as "Papa."

A Remembrance Gathering will be held at 1:30pm on July 21, 2024 at the Tybee Island American Legion.
