Georgia/St. Albans – Eleanor "Ellie" Pauline Schuster, a resident of this area since 1970, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Franklin County Rehab Center. Her loving family was at her side.
Born in Harwinton, Connecticut on July 15, 1934, Ellie was the daughter of the late Julius and Helen (Bruch) Scheppard. Ellie was 90 years old.
On October 15, 1955, Ellie married Herman Schuster in Waterbury, Connecticut. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on October 15th.
Ellie graduated from Terryville High School in Connecticut. Later, in Vermont, she took many college courses at Trinity College and the Community College of Vermont. She worked as a medical secretary in the Public Health Division of the State of Vermont, retiring in 1995. Ellie volunteered for 13 years at the Northwest Medical Center in St. Albans, kindly assisting area patients and their families.
She loved to read and share her love of books, and tend her food and flower gardens. Ellie's vibrant displays of geraniums and marigolds warmly welcomed guests. She enjoyed canoeing, bird watching and camping with family and friends. Ellie was a longtime and active member of the First Congregational Church in St. Albans, the Georgia Historical Society, and the Northern Vermont Canoe Cruisers. She and her husband enjoyed many vacations in Maine and Alaska.
Survivors include her husband, Herman of St. Albans; their son, Kenneth Schuster of Georgia; daughter, Helen Lons of Sheldon; three grandchildren, Andrew Schuster of Swanton; Nick Schuster of Sheffield and Travis Lons of King Salmon, Alaska. Ellie also leaves 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ellie was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Jane Schuster; son-in-law, Daryle Lons; brothers Herbert and Stewart; and sisters Virginia and Charlotte.
At her request there will be no services, as many of her very longtime friends have also passed.
Those wishing to express sympathy are asked to please donate in Ellie's honor to the Franklin County Animal Rescue, 30 Sunset Meadow, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
Honored to be serving the family of Ellie Schuster is Rett Heald of the Heald Funeral Home, where messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.
