Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 1, 2025.
Major William "Bill" E. Graves, Jr., a longtime resident of Penn Valley, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by family.

Born in Woodlake, California, Bill was the son of William E. and Verna Graves. He graduated from Sequoia College before proudly serving 20 years in the U.S. Air Force.

His distinguished military career included three tours in Vietnam and an assignment in Okinawa. As a KC-135 Navigator, he played a key role in refueling SR-71 aircraft during missions. Bill retired from Beale Air Force Base in 1976 with the rank of Major.

In retirement, Bill enjoyed traveling the world, fishing, camping, and treasured teaching his grandchildren the art of fishing. He will be remembered for his strength, service, and his devotion to his family.

He was a devoted husband to his wife of 41 years, Doris, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his parents and sister, Pat.

Bill is survived by his sister, Peg; children Bill (Diane), Dianna (Mireille), Todd (Janelle), Julie (Joe), and Gregg (Juliet); stepchildren Dave (Margaret), Gary (Brenda), and Judy (John); 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in his honor may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
