Ernest N. Clute, 101, of Wattsburg, passed away Friday October 17, 2025. He was born in Ashtabula, OH on December 8, 1923 a son of the late Merle and Hazel Merrell Clute.
Ernest attended Gannon College and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a dairy and sheep farmer for many years and worked at GE for 23 years until his retirement in 1986. Following retirement he worked at Kimball's Hardware Store, the Weber Feed Store, and the Corry Auction. He was a member of Wattsburg United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men Brotherhood, and the Kings Men of Wattsburg United Methodist Church. He was involved with the Boy Scouts for many years and was a Scout Master with Wattsburg Troop #95 for many years. He enjoyed hiking, camping, canoeing, and woodworking.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Leslie Clute; his daughter, Patricia Clute; and his brother, Donald Clute.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Bentley Vickery Clute; four sons, William Clute (Linda) of Wattsburg, Robert Clute (Donna) of Florida, Richard "Peter" Clute (Joann) of North East, and Jack Clute (Joka') of Columbia, SC; four daughters, Geraldine Luke of North East, Janice Lake (Mayford) of Webster Springs, WV, and his twin daughters, Marilyn Clute of Erie and Carolyn Gay (Barry) of Greene Twp; five stepsons, Bob, Richard, Charlie, Steve, and Brian Vickery; one stepdaughter, Laurie Jordan; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. and are invited to services at Wattsburg United Methodist Church, on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in Phillipsville Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Mission of the Wattsburg United Methodist Church, 9904 Jamestown Rd, Wattsburg, PA 16442.
