Eugene Weeks, 88, of Pavo, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Tommy Willis and Reverend Ty Greene officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Johnathan Maddox, Alex Milton, Matthew Mitchell, David Hagan, Coty Hansen, and RJ Weeks will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Janney, Ross Webb, Kenny Humphrey, Danny Humphrey, Brian Boyd, Chuck O’Kelley, Leroy Connerly, and Gary Pounds.
Visitation will be held 6-8 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Baker Funeral Home.
Born on February 5, 1936, in Adel, Georgia, he was the son of the late James Edward “Eddie” Weeks and Cora “Ma” Estelle Shaw Weeks. Eugene served his country with honor in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he continued to exemplify bravery and dedication by joining the Moultrie Fire Department. Over the years, his hard work and leadership skills earned him the rank of Captain, from which he proudly retired in 1998. Eugene’s personal life was equally rich. He shared a loving and enduring marriage with his beloved wife, Mae Frances Weeks, spanning 66 years. Their marriage was a testament to their deep love and unwavering dedication to each other. He was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Justin Maddox; brothers, JM Weeks, Carroll Weeks, and Charles Weeks; and sisters, Maggie Willis, Nancy “Bessie” Monk, and Lucille Pounds.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mae Frances Weeks of Pavo; son, Ricky Dwayne Weeks and wife Beth of Valdosta; daughters, LaJuan Morris of Thomasville, Beverly Hurst and husband Casey of Cairo, Penny Panizzi and husband Giovanni of Lake Park, and Ashlyn Weeks Hansen and husband Coty of Pavo; grandchildren, Johnathan Maddox and wife Chris, Matthew Mitchell and wife Holly, RJ Weeks, Tobias Hansen, Mathias Hansen, Keisha Hiers, Jessica Milton and husband Alex, Brittany Mitchell, and Morgan Hagan and husband David; great-grandchildren, Dylan Maddox, Thomas Milton, Blake Humphrey, Reid Mitchell, Beau Mitchell, Gabe Panizzi, Alyssa Conger, Laura Payne, Kate Panizzi, Amelia Panizzi, Ellie Panizzi, and Sophia Panizzi; special friends, Sue and Leroy Connerly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
