Eunice Porter Joiner, born on October 12, 1936, in St Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at The Addison of Oakleaf Senior Living in Jacksonville, FL. She was a cherished figure in her family and community, leaving behind a legacy rich in accomplishments and memories.
Eunice and her family moved to Havana, FL in 1945. She attended Havana Elementary and High School and graduated in 1955
Eunice dedicated a significant portion of her career to Raymond James Associates in St. Petersburg, where she was employed for most of her working life before retiring. Her passion for learning was evident as she pursued higher education, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from both Florida State University and the University of St. Petersburg.
As a person, Eunice was an avid reader, often seen with a book in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, a beloved pastime that reflected her love for knowledge and stories. Her talents extended beyond reading; she was recognized as an amazing seamstress, mastering the art of creating and recreating garments with remarkable skill. Moreover, her affection for nature was evident in her love for flowers and plants, as she had an irresistible urge to bring home any new plant that caught her eye.
Eunice is survived by her sisters, Sue Porter of Havana, FL, and Shirley Porter Metzger of Youngsville, NC, as well as two brothers, Rufus Porter of Tallahassee, FL, and Ralph Porter (and his wife Janet) of Thomasville, GA. Her family also includes several nieces and nephews who will carry her memory.
She was preceded in death by her father, the late Marvin A. Porter, and her mother, the late Ruth Blowers Porter.
A memorial service to honor Eunice's life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Faith Funeral Home Chapel in Havana, FL, with Dr. Eric Erskine officiating the service. The service is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM, Friends, family, and all those touched by her gentle spirit are invited to pay their respects and celebrate her remarkable life. An inurnment of her ashes will be held later that afternoon at Woodland Cemetery in Havana.
