The family is hosting a celebration of life that will be at 2 p.m. on September 29, 2024, at Unity Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born in Knoxville, TN, Evelyn was the fifth child of nine children born to the late Charles Ernest Cate and Ina Martha Jolay. She received her elementary education in Knoxville, TN, and graduated from Chicora High School, N. Charleston, SC. She went on to complete her education from the Medical University of Charleston, SC, where she received her Nursing Degree. Evelyn and her late husband, Sammy Hodge, spent their earlier years in Charleston, SC, where Evelyn worked at MUSC in the open-heart surgery field for many years. They later moved to Lakeland, FL, where she continued to advance in her nursing field. Evelyn and Sammy retired and made their home in Crossville, TN, Sammy's hometown.
Surviving are one brother, Jimmy Cate and two sisters, Martha Blair and Dorothy Gambrell.
Memorial may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church.
