Frank Zimmerman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes - Willoughby on Jun. 12, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Frank J. Zimmerman, who departed this life on May 30, 2025, in Willoughby, Ohio, at the age of 70. Born on April 21, 1955, in Cleveland, Ohio, Frank was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, loyal brother, and a man of quiet strength and deep conviction.
Frank made his home in Eastlake, Ohio, where he built a life rooted in love, perseverance, and connection. He was the beloved husband of the late Arlene (Kouche) Zimmerman, with whom he shared a life of deep devotion and unwavering partnership. Together, they weathered life's greatest joys and heartbreaks, including the loss of their infant son, Frank Jr., and beloved daughter, Kari.
Frank was the proud and loving father of Jennifer (Daniel) Novitski and Steven (Amanda) Zimmerman, and the doting grandfather of Julia Novitski, Alexander Novitski, Benjamin Novitski, and Lucille Zimmerman, all of whom were constant sources of pride and joy. He is also survived by his dear sister Rosemary Woods, and was preceded in death by his parents, Steven and Mary Zimmerman (née Colasant), his sister Linda Velecheck, his brothers Steven Zimmerman and Mark Zimmerman, and his infant brother Mark.
Frank had a long and accomplished career with NASA, and took particular pride in his work on the Space Shuttle program. His contributions to the advancement of space exploration reflect his sharp mind, dedicated spirit, and passion for something greater than himself.
Those who knew Frank knew his heart-fierce in love, tenacious in life, and always ready with a warm welcome. Frank never met a stranger twice. His charisma, kindness, and easy laughter left a lasting impression. He had a unique way of showing love, often through his passion for food-whether cooking, sharing a meal, or simply gathering around the table. His kitchen was a place of comfort and connection, where love was served with every bite.
While he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, there is peace in knowing that Frank is eternally reunited with the love of his life, Arlene-a bond that even death could not break.
A private interment will take place at Sharpe Avenue Cemetery in Willoughby. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time, and invites all who loved Frank to honor his memory in their own personal way-through a shared story, a favorite meal, or a quiet moment of reflection beneath the stars.
Arrangements are being handled by McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes, with locations in Willoughby and Mentor.

Frank was a regular at the deli I worked at (in Mentor Family Foods) for years. I believe just about all 5-or-so years I was there, he would be in at least once a week. Most conversations were small talk, maybe a disagreement about how thin is too thin for a slice of cheese, but joking aside - he spoke without relent of his late wife, and his family. He always said she was his whole world, and how he missed her more and more each day. I always respected the candor he had, especially when talking about the battles he was having with cancer. It was never too much for him to talk about and he didn't want anyone to feel too uncomfortable to ask him how he was doing. I had no idea he'd passed, but I am thankful for having been able to know him. Rest well, Frank.
