Bertha Tufele Obituary

Our beloved Princess-Bertha ‘Afioga Laulauga’ Tufele Li’amatua was born on June 24th, 1975 to our beloved parents the Late Tufele Li’amatua Sr., and our mother Tofiga Aulava-Muaau Tufele.

Bertha was the 6th child of 9 children of Tofiga and Tufele Li’amatua. She graduated from Fagaitua High School and continued her educational journey at ASCC. After graduating from our American Samoa Community College in 2001, she started her teaching career at Matafao Elementary School in 2003. After her first year at Matafao, she went to Laulii Elementary School and taught there from 2004 to 2008. She was a good friend to everyone that knew her but the best aunty/mama to her nieces and nephews.There’s no better friend than our dear Bertha and there’s no worse enemy than her when she gets mad. She is unique in her own ways and she’s one of a kind.

Through the years, our sister resigned from her career as a teacher to seek medical treatments off-island. There, she served as a ‘mafutaga tina’ member, a Sunday school teacher, youth member and a congregation member, especially an advisor to her brother who serves as a Missionary in Tennessee. Last year 2022, she was bestowed a Deacon title and that’s where she served her last days as a deaconess, a mother, a sister, friend and aunty until she took her last breath when God called her home in January 21, 2023. There are so many memories and stories about our dearest sister Bertha and a precious daughter to our dearest mother, Tofiga Aulava-Tufele that we will treasure and keep in our hearts. May the winds of heaven blow softly and whisper in her ears, how much we love and miss her today and forever. Our beloved Princess Bertha Afioga Laulauga Tufele Li’amatua was the best thing that ever happened to our family. May our God embrace our dearest Princess in His loving arms until that glorious day when we meet her again. You are forever in our hearts and you are greatly missed……

A funeral service will be held at Gateway Funeral Home on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
