St. George, Utah – With tender and full hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Joseph Godfrey. He passed away peacefully at home in St. George, Utah, on Thursday, October 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, Mary, after a resilient battle against kidney cancer.
Gary was born on October 10, 1948, in Lehi, Utah, to Joseph and Faye Godfrey. He was the oldest child of five siblings. He attended Lehi High School, where he played tennis and wrestled, and later continued his studies at Dixie Junior College, and then graduated from Utah State University, where he obtained his bachelor's degree.
Gary married his sweetheart, Mary Faddis, on July 18, 1975; they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three children - Nathan, Natalie, and Nicole. They were sealed together as a family in the Salt Lake temple on July 28, 1990.
Gary loved nothing more than spending time with family, especially in the great outdoors. Some of his happiest moments were spent boating on the lake, camping under the stars, and exploring trails on his RZR side-by-side. Being outside with the people he loved most made him happy.
Gary was a talented master craftsman, known for his skill in building cabinets. He had a natural gift for working with his hands and took pride in creating, fixing, and repairing just about anything, even up to the day he passed away.
Gary had a lifelong love for anything with an engine. From classic cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and RZR's, he found joy in the thrill of the ride. If it was loud and fast, Gary wanted to be behind the wheel. He had a knack for fixing things, and a thrill for adventure. Whether it was taking a spontaneous ride, fine-tuning a machine in the garage, or sharing his passion with family and friends, Gary found pure joy in the open road and the sound of horsepower. His love for speed wasn't just about the ride - it was about the fun and the memories made along the way.
Gary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Both Gary and his wife Mary served in the Mount Timpanogos temple baptistry for three years and loved every second of it.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Faddis Godfrey; and his children: Nate of Pleasant Grove, Natalie (Tyson Skeen) of Provo, and Nicole (Jaxon Karren) of Spanish Fork. Gary had six grandchildren whom he loved. He is also survived by his siblings: Robert Godfrey, Susan Faddis, and Melanie Coe. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Faye Godfrey; brother, Tony Godfrey; and other beloved family members.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at the Crimson View Ward Chapel, 4345 South Medallion Drive, Washington, Utah. A viewing will be held on Saturday, prior to services, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.
