George Ann Cox, age 91, of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Dickie” Cox; a son, Johnny Cox; her father, George Clark; and her mother, Nellie Haga Cox; her brother, Roger Clark; and a sister, Marion Mowry,
She is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, James “Jim” and Cynthia Cox; 2 granddaughters, Jamie (Alex) Myrick and Sarah Cox; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Myrick; a sister, Catherine Bobbett; and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Cox was a native and lifelong resident of Gulfport and was a 1952 graduate of Gulfport High School. She was retired from the Tax Assessors Office in the City of Gulfport and was a member of the Elks Club Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. Mrs. Cox dedicated her life to caring for her special needs son and was instrumental in the establishment of the Exceptional School in Gulfport in support of the handicapped children.
The family would like to thank Vital Home Caring, Dr. Baroudi and staff, and Sissy Stevens for their care and support to the family.
A visitation will be on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 6 – 7 pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach. A graveside service will be held at 10 am Monday in Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
