Gerald Ahrens Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Ahrens, age 81, passed away on August 26, 2025. Born on September 8, 1943, he was raised in Saginaw, Michigan. On June 25, 1966, Jerry married the love of his life, Jane (Witker) Ahrens, in Pemberville, Ohio. Together, they built a life on the east side of Columbus before moving to Pataskala in June 2024. Jerry was a devoted family man, beloved neighbor, and a friend to all who crossed his path. His warmth and easygoing nature made him someone who never met a stranger, always eager to strike up a conversation wherever he went. Known for his humor, kindness, and willingness to help others, Jerry was truly a jack of all trades. He was particularly handy around the house and had an unshakeable passion for fixing things. In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed metal detecting, gardening, canning and drying fruits - especially apples. He continued the family tradition taught to him by Grandma Zapf of making lebkuchen and springerle cookies every Christmas-treats that will live on in the memories of his loved ones. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Jane; his daughter, Joan (Tim) Connor; and his grandsons, Matt (Laina), Doug (Caitlyn), and Ben (Payton) Connor. He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren, Ahren and Blaire Connor. Jerry is survived by his two brothers, Don Ahrens and Alan (Pam) Ahrens, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who considered him a beloved and fun uncle. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alma (Zapf) Ahrens; his sister, Carol Olivares, and other cherished loved ones. Jerry's passing leaves a hole in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his legacy of kindness, laughter, and unconditional love will never be forgotten. The family will be having a Celebration of Life service at Faith Lutheran Church (730 Collingwood Avenue, Whitehall, Ohio 43213) on Saturday, September 6th at 10:00AM. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon after the service at Hosanna Lutheran Church (7714 Hazelton-Etna Road, Pataskala, Ohio 43062).
