Gerald Leslie Galpin, lovingly known as Garry with two R’s, Gare-Bear, Gibbles, and Uncle G, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, October 27th, 2024.

Garry is survived by his Love, Loretta Benham; sister and husband, Wanda and Curtis Crider; niece, nephews, and respective spouses: Jake Crider and partner, Angela Boyd, Lisa and Kris Cook, and Clint and Ashley Crider, all of Granbury; his blended, chosen family: Tiana Sempero, Sabrina Roselas, Rachel Britt, and Tabitha Riley and husband, Matt; grandchildren: Leila, Evie, and Caleb Riley; great nieces and nephews: Brant, Bradley, and Dustin Cook, and Corbin, Colbie, Cambry, and Payton Crider; and many friends from coast to coast.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Gerald L. Galpin, and siblings, Louise Maddox and Albert Lanning Galpin.

Garry was an accomplished entrepreneur. Garry started his first business as a teenager in yard maintenance, which led to him completing a degree in landscaping. With this he followed his passion of plants and outdoors by creating a landscaping business which he enjoyed for several years in California, building gazebos, pergolas, decks and stairways many of which are still around today.

My favorite landscaping story is in his late teens. He planted a California redwood in his parent’s front yard. In 2014 the tree was still there taking up the entire front yard and looked to be 100 foot tall, his landscaping career took another path when computers became popular, he became a software designer developing the first program that would show the customer what their landscape project would look like. This program is still sold and used today.

After that successful endeavor and a move to Texas, he decided to become an FFL and build and sell his own rifles. Garry was also a talented musician and song writer playing piano, keyboard, and guitar. Garry loved the Lord and wrote several songs of praise. He was always ready to make everyone laugh, a natural entertainer. His illness slowed him down, but did not stop him. He is missed terribly.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
