Gerald Leroy Pearson, of Roosevelt, MN, passed away Saturday, February 1st at the Warroad Senior Living Center at the age of 89.
Gerald was born in Kennedy, MN on January 1,1936, to Harry and Sylvia Pearson. He grew up in Roosevelt, MN and attended the little red one-room schoolhouse in Roosevelt. As a young adult, he worked at Arneson's as a commercial fisherman on Lake of the Woods. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 21 and served in the 651st Medic unit in Germany after the end of World War II. After serving his country, he moved back home where he met the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy) McKinnon and married in July 1960 in Baudette, MN. As a young couple they moved to the Twin Cities area where he joined the Carpenter's Union. They had six wonderful children. While the kids were still young, he decided he was tired of city living and moved his family back up north to god's country, where he built a beautiful home north of Roosevelt, just down the road from where he grew up.
Gerald had a multitude of passions that defined his life. His love for the outdoors was evident as he enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, gardening, picking blueberries and making lefse. He was a self taught taxidermist and mounted countless animals such as deer, bear, fox, coyotes, bobcats, fish and literally hundreds of birds. He shared these mounts with his friends and family, along with donating to local benefits. He was a very talented carpenter and built many homes throughout the years. His woodworking skills were exceptional, as he built kitchen cabinets, different types of furniture which included carved diamond willow pieces. He was known for his kindness and big heart, and for speaking his mind. His ability to bring joy to those around him will live on in the hearts and memories of his family and friends. His big smile and the twinkle in his eyes will be missed by many.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggy), of 64 years; son Troy (Cyndi) Pearson, son Tim (Jill) Pearson, daughter LeAnn (Bart) Cammarata, son Dan (Vickie) Pearson, daughter Dawna (Mark) Harren; sister Karen (Bob) Fast, brother Kurth (Mary) Pearson; brother-in-law Richard Gorman, sisters-in-law Dolores McKinnon, Elouise McKinnon and Joan Pearson, son-in-law, Shawn Henry; grandchildren Kristy Kjos, Brandon Pearson, Kirk, Jacob and Ksana Pearson, Taylor and Jarrett Cammarata, Lance Pearson, Airyk and Nolan Parkhouse; great grandchildren Carter and Hannah Kjos, Payton and Harlee Pearson, Evander and Ava Parkhouse, and several nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dennis and Nohel; sister Kathy Gorman; daughter Linda Henry; grandsons Zachary Pearson, Lucas Pearson and Evan Parkhouse.
