Geraldine "Gerry" Trotter Harsey Porter, 88, affectionately known to many as Pearl or Granny, died Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Born on April 19, 1936 in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina to Marie Trotter Stewart and Wylie B. Trotter, Gerry was one of 12 children. While Gerry was raised in Great Falls, she spent her married life in Winnsboro. She was the wife of the late William B. "Bill" Porter. Gerry worked in banking at First Union Bank in Winnsboro for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro and later, a regular attendee at Gilbert United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Fairfield Country Club, Fairfield Swangers Square Dance Club, and Good Sams Club of Fairfield County.
Gerry is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon H. Wright (Alvin) of Gilbert, Vonda H. Jenkins (Walter) of Lexington; son, Randy Harsey of Lexington; daughter-in-law Susan Harsey Mincey; extended Porter family; grandchildren, Lacy H. Melvin (Wes), Hunter Wright, Miki W. Keisler (Brian), Kayela Green (Jay), and Graham Jenkins; great grandchildren, Cole, Molly Kate, Leia, Lilo, Loralei, Isabella, and Maddox; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gerry is predeceased by her first husband Vernon Harsey, second husband, Bill Porter; loving sister Juanita Looper; and 10 fun, rambunctious brothers, CB, Excel, Basil, JB, Wylie "Junior", Ray, Kent, Roger, Frank, and infant boy Trotter. Gerry loved spending time with her siblings as the Trotters were known for large family gatherings filled with fun, games, good food, and lots of laughs.
Granny was the foundation and rock of her family. She was strong, resilient, generous, compassionate, and loving. The greatest joy of her life was her family, and any time spent with them. She loved having fun and was the light of any get together. She was always up for any adventure and antics presented to her. Granny welcomed everyone as if they were family. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, decorating, sewing, reading, cooking, square dancing, and cheering on the Clemson Tigers. Later in life, she developed a passion for golf and made many friends and fond memories at the Fairfield Country Club. Granny spent the last 10 years loving, playing, and watching her great grandchildren Cole and Molly Kate in all their many activities.
Visitation will be held at Pope Funeral Home in Winnsboro, SC on Wednesday, 10/2/24 from 5-7pm. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Gilbert United Methodist Church in Gilbert, SC on Thursday, 10/3/24 at 2pm. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private and at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Generations of Batesburg for their love, compassion, and care shown to "Miss Gerry".
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Generations Assisted Living Facility of Batesburg, SC to assist in rebuilding from a recent fire, Gilbert United Methodist Church, or Gerry's favorite charity St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
