Gilbert Gore Andrews Jr., 87, of Woodstown passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024.
Born and raised in Salem, NJ, Gil was the son of Gilbert G. Andrews, Sr. and Mary Wrightson Camper Andrews, both of Eastern Shore, MD.
Predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Carla Jo Hebert Andrews, Gil is survived by his sister, Lucile Bozzone (husband Paul) of Kennett Square, PA, and his brother, Rev. Tom Andrews (wife Kathy) of Bowie, MD; four children, Joe Andrews (wife Betsey) of Monroeville, Dr. Sandy Andrews (husband Rodney Baker) of Austin, TX, Gil Andrews, III (wife Joan) of Austin, TX and Bobbi Elwell (husband Danny) of Upper Deerfield. Gil was known as Papa to his eight grandchildren: Candace Doudoukjian (husband Steve),
Madison Miller (husband Ben), and Austin Andrews; Jordan, Hallie and Kendall Baker; Carleen and Peyton Elwell.
After graduating from Salem High School in 1953, Gil attended Washington College, studying Economics. Gil then served our country in the US Army, stationed in Seoul, Korea.
Following an honorable discharge, Gil moved to Lake Charles, LA where he met and married Carla Jo. Together they returned to Salem in 1959. Thereafter Gil worked for and eventually acquired Andrews Oil Co., later named Tri-County Oil Co. In the 1960's, Gil was a member of the Salem Jaycees. He was also a lifelong member of Rotary Club.
In 1974 Gil and Carla, along with their four children, moved to Woodstown NJ where they lived for the remainder of their marriage.
In his free time, Gil enjoyed golfing at Salem Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors, and playing bridge with many friends. An avid reader of history, Gil read many books about the Civil War and WWII. He was a devoted, if not intense fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies. Gil and Carla spent many summers watching sunsets on the Delaware River from the porch of their cottage in Elsinboro.
