Grover (Joe) Grimes, Jr.
Carthage, MS
Grover (Joe) Grimes, Jr, 79, of the Freeny Community near Carthage, MS passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the Mississippi State
Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS.
Visitation is 4:00 pm until 7 pm Monday, December 30, 2024, at Wilcox Funeral Home. Graveside services are at Freeny Family Cemetery led by Rev. Paul Sanders.
Mr. Grimes was a native of Leake County and finished school at Carthage High School. He was a member of the United States Naval Reserve and served aboard
the USS Intrepid during the Vietnamese War. After returning home from his service, he attended East Central Community College. He began work in
residential construction in Leake County and eventually went into commercial construction serving as the job-site superintendent for many projects
in Central and South Mississippi. He later became the job-site inspector for William O. Easom, architect. He was a member of Freeny Community Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna Cornelia Grimes and his son, Jacob O. Grimes of Carthage; a brother, Danny Ray Grimes (Melinda) of Morton; sisters, Debbie (Tony)
Beckham of Carthage and Susan (Jimmy) Wilcher of Ratliff Ferry near Canton, MS. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; great-and great-great- nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Sr. and Guysell (Watkins) Grimes of Carthage; and his parents-in-law, Oliver and Zetha (Hillman) Wright of the Freeny Community.
Pallbearers were nephews, Donnie Fletcher, Jonathan Craig, Brandon Wilcher; nephews-in-law, Norman Palokas, Anthony Palokas, and great-nephew-in-law, Andrew Burnside.
