Helen Marie Abbott, 85, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 9:10 p.m. on February 23, 2025, at Otterbein Green Hills Senior Life Community. Born in Marion, Ohio on December 9, 1939, she was the daughter of Carl E. and Mildred Leverne (Martin) Andrews.
On March 3, 1962, in East Liberty, she married Laurence L. Abbott. He passed away on March 19, 2020. Helen was also preceded in death by her son, James W. “Bubba” Abbott; sisters, Virginia Andrews and Jean Andrews; and sons-in-law, Randall Skidmore and John Eric “Rick” Urban.
She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Skidmore, Connie (Keith) Close, and Beverly Jo Abbott, all of Bellefontaine; son, Larry (Jennifer) Abbott of Olmsted Falls; 9 grandchildren, Chelsea (Tim) Chapman, John Eric “Ricky” (Katelyn) Urban, James Skidmore, Mathew Urban, Zack Close, Destiny (Brandon) Daniels; Rebecca Abbott, Michael Smith, and Carley Abbott; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Arlene (Chris) Knopp; brothers, Charles Andrews, Ralph (Grace) Andrews, and Carl “Hoss” (Lori) Andrews; and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was a distinguished veteran of the U.S. Army and an esteemed member of the First Friends Church in Bellefontaine. She had a passion for watching NASCAR, the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Helen valued her family greatly. Additionally, she had a fondness for collecting cow and owl memorabilia, and she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and baking pies.
Pastor Matthew Sandlin will officiate a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the First Friends Church 808 W. Columbus Ave. Bellefontaine.
